Studio Time for BIPOC / LGBTQ + Two Spirit Artists
If you do not identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ or Two Spirit, please click here to book studio time.
Oi Yoi celebrates beauty in unexpected moments.
While there are many ways to do this, Oi Yoi offers a clean, quiet private space for visual artists to create as they desire. Oi Yoi stands against racism, oppression and hate for marginalized communities and the systems in which they have been perpetuated. The privilege of access to ample time and space for creative activities is one marginalized communities may have less access to; for these reasons, we offer this program to rectify these wrongs.
Each month an artist identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQ or Two Spirit will be given up to eight hours of studio time and the option to host a virtual gallery opening on the Oi Yoi Instagram to present their art.
Though Oi Yoi is set up mainly for hourly photography and video shoot rentals, it has been used for dance, music, poetry and other forms of expression. Applicants are welcome to pitch other mediums (painting, dance, music, etc.) and the operators of the studio will do their best to adapt to their needs. Applicants do not need to have a crystal clear vision of what they will create, nor will they be required to offer a deliverable to Oi Yoi in exchange for this time.
Missoula County COVID restrictions must be maintained while using Oi Yoi Studio. Clean and respectful use of the space is required. If you want to get messy, we will find a way to make it possible (drop cloths, tarps, etc.).
“I named this space “Oi Yoi” after a line my great grandmother wrote in her diary during the great depression. This phrase was an exclamation of joy and appreciation for her community. Dr. Sue spent much of her life fighting for the rights of women, BIPOC, LGBTQ and Two Spirit people. It is my privilege to fill this space with artists of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds and gender identities. I hope you will find what you need here.”
